      Comments:

I love this computer. When used with Garmin's Connect website, the information recorded is extremely valuable when breaking down your rides. I am adding the heart rate monitor and cadence sensor. I also like being able to switch it from my training bike to my road bike. Very nice computer.

        Comments:

Overall the 500 is a great upgrade from the 305. The battery life is about 8 hours longer and the memory is many times greater, which means multiple rides without having to upload and recharge instead of just one or two. The screen is also much easier to read over the 305, and the buttons on the side much easier to operate with gloved hands. The 500 also is able to display many more metrics than the 305, including power. The only drawback is that the 500 does not have the option to record data every second, a feature I always used on the 305. The "smart recording" it does use means that it records fewer data points, which means that the GPS will show the rider cutting across corners much more than with 1-second recording. This will underestimate the ride's distance, especially on intricate routes (ie mountain biking, cyclocross). Overall I am very happy with the unit, and the Garmin Connect website it works with is really great for tracking performance and sharing ride data with others. I would hope for a firmware upgrade with 1 second recording in the future but for now I'm happy to overlook it's omission.

        Comments:

I've used the Edge 305 and now this 500. Generally, the information provided from a heart-rate and cadence equipped GPS is very useful for tracking your fitness/performance over time, or a specific ride. A good investment as you can move it from bike to bike or change wheels without worrying about wheel magnets and such. Also able to record information from other activities, as long as the unit can see the sky.
