This Week's Routes

Group Rides On Tap For Feb. 21st - Feb. 24th 2019

This is totally insane. A cyclist in Santa Cruz stops at a red light and some jackass steals his mountain bike from the bed of his pickup truck http://bit.ly/2NcDvGq. Seriously? We have a customer whose bike was stolen from his locked garage…while he was home. Simple advice, lock your bike if: you go into a store; you stop for a cup of coffee; it's on your car; it's in your garage or wherever you leave it. It shouldn't be this way and I'm not sure where the insanity stops but better safe than sorry. Hopefully the lock does the trick but, if not, check out this link on what to do if your bike is stolen. http://bit.ly/2V2gjNL The odds of recouping your bike are slim but it’s worth a try and it does happen. We’ve had some luck helping a friend get back their very expensive TT bike using social media.

Ok, here's the plan for this week:
Tonight's Mountain Bike Ride. 6:15 at Pleasanaton Ridge
Only a little rain since the weekend. PRidge should be good to go. Meet on Longview Dr. off of Foothill just south of Bernal.

Saturday Mountain Bike Ride. 9 AM
Arrive and decide. Worst (or best) case we'll take Bathrooms to up and above the mud. We'll need a leader for the B Group.

Sunday's Road Rides. 9 AM
We can't stress enough that all of our rides are "GROUP RIDES." That means we stick together and no one gets left behind. Last week we were told a ride split into "a bunch of different groups." When asked how the response was “people didn't wait after someone flatted." Not cool! Again no one gets left behind unless mutually agreed upon or unless Uber has been called. Anyway, lets ride:

The A1 & A2 Groups will do the Pinehurst, Skyline, Redwood, Pinehurst Route. That takes us into Lafayette the usual way which is: up Danville Blvd.; through the neighborhoods until we pop out onto Olympic Blvd; across Olympic to Reliez Station Rd; through more neighborhoods until we come on Moraga Rd. Deviating from the link below, to avoid an “out & back”, I suggest that instead of going left on St. Mary’s Rd. we continue up Moraga Rd. and climb all the way to Moraga Commons Park where you can take a break if needed. From there we’ll head across Canyon Rd. to where it t-bones Pinehurst, go right on Pinehurst and climb that to Skyline. Blvd. After regrouping at the top of the climb, we’ll go left on Skyline and take that all the way over to Redwood Rd. and descend back down to Pinehurst. We’ll go left on Pinehurst and climb / descend that back into Moraga and Moraga Commons Park. The route home will take us down St. Mary’s Rd. to Glenside, to Reliez Station, Olympic, Tice Valley, Crest, Hillgrade and Danville Blvd. Don’t panic my Strava Map says 88. But that’s in KM. It’s only 53 miles.

The B Group will go into Lafayette the same way as the A Groups. And, like the A Groups, for variety sake we’ll continue up Moraga Rd. and climb all the way to Moraga Commons Park where you can take break if needed. From there we’ll head across Canyon Rd. but instead of going right on Pinehurst we’ll go left on and climb to the top of Pinehurst; definitely one of my favorite climbs. As I always say it’s hard to tell on the map and, for me to describe, where the top is but trust me, you’ll know. It plateaus and there will be cars parked, other cyclists regrouping and a few trail heads. We’ll regroup there and then turn around descend that back into Moraga and Moraga Commons Park. And like the other groups we’ll head home via St. Mary’s Rd. to Glenside, to Reliez Station, Olympic, Tice Valley, Crest, Hillgrade and Danville Blvd.

For the C1 Group we’ll do the Glorietta Loop. Like the other groups we’ll head into Lafayette the usual way. But, instead of going straight up Moraga Rd. we’ll turn left and head up to the end of St. Mary's. After we refuel at the Moraga Commons Park we’ll make a quick left onto Canyon followed by a quick right onto Moraga Way. A few miles up Moraga Way we'll crest the climb and descend to Glorietta Blvd. Be careful it’s a little ways down but it comes up on you quick. Don’t overshoot. I suggest turning onto Glorietta and regrouping. Then we’ll head across Glorietta which takes us to Acalanes Rd. then to Mt. Diablo Blvd. into Lafayette and then home via Olympic, Tice Valley Rd. and San Ramon Valley Blvd. That just shy of 43 miles and just over 1,700 ft. of climbing.

For the C2 Group we'll try the Short St. Mary’s Loop. Like the C1 Group we’ll take the usual route up San Ramon Blvd. into Alamo / Walnut Creek, cut through the neighborhoods, shoot across Olympic Blvd., snake through some more neighborhoods until we get onto Moraga Rd. A left on Moraga Rd. and another quick left on St. Mary’s Rd. We’ll take that to Glenside where we'll veer left and zig zag to Reliez Station. After the nasty descent we'll be back on Olympic which we'll take to Tice Valley, Crest, Hillgrade and Danville Blvd. Plan on 31 miles. No problem if this is too long…lots of turn around points. It’s your ride and we’ll ride as long or as short as you want.
