This Week's Routes

This Week's Shop Rides

Group Rides On Tap for Dec. 6th - Dec. 9th 2018

Christmas is just 3 weeks away! We know that shopping for that cyclist who "has everything" can be difficult so we've created a list of gifts / stocking stuffers that we think they will like and we’ve brought them into to the shop. They include:

  1. The Feedback Sports Torque Tool
  2. The Fly 6 & 12 Light / Camera combos
  3. Lennard Zinn's Books on Basic Bike Maintenance
  4. A 6Fifteen Cyclery Gift Card
  5. The Park Tool Pizza Cutter
  6. The Park Tool Bottle Opener
  7. Knee Deep Brewing's Simtra Triple IPA . We don't actually sell this but it's sooooo good and since we have the bottle openers, we thought what the heck?

And, on the subject of gifts, figure you have until about Dec 18th to order that special bike for the cyclist in your life. The last day of shipping for Giant & Liv is actually is actually the 21st but the “rush” shipping costs will be expensive and with the possibility of weather delays you never know. We just don't want to disappoint anyone; especially the little ones!

Ok, here's the plan

Tonight's Mountain Bike. Road Trip!
Although we didn't get too much rain yesterday the consensus is that Finley Rd. won't be much fun so we're going to try Pleasanton Ridge. 5:45 at the shop; 6:15 on Longview off of Foothill Rd. Dress warm.

Saturday Mountain Bike Ride. 9:00 AM
With no rain in the forecast until Monday and a fair amount of sunshine the trails around Diablo should be in good shape. Arrive and decide. Dave is riding the road so we'll need a leader for the B Group.

Sunday Road Rides. 9:00 AM
As we always say, safety first! We thought this article was very interesting. The take is that you can obey all traffic laws and still get hit by a car. The article has some specific tips on how to "not get hit by a car" Thanks to Geoff Landon from The Kovarus C4 Racing team for sharing

The routes:

The A1 and A2 Groups will do Tunnel Rd. To get there we'll head out through Lafayette and Orinda to Wildcat Canyon. Then we'll climb Wildcat, Shasta Rd. and Golf Course Dr. through Tilden Park to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and take that to Claremont Ave into Berkeley. A few zigs and zags through Berkeley and we'll jump on Tunnel Rd. up to Skyline and over to Pinehurst Rd. We'll then descend Pinehurst to Canyon to St. Mary's Rd back down into Lafayette. Then it's Olympic, Tice Valley and Danville Blvd to home. Strava says 61.5 miles and about 4,400 ft. of climbing.

The B Group will do the Moraga Way Loop. We’ll head into Lafayette the usual way which is all the way up Danville Blvd. past Rudgear, snake through the neighborhood to Olympic Blvd., and then to Releiz Station Rd. From there we'll snake though the neighborhood the usual way to get onto Mt. Diablo Blvd. and take that to Acalanes. A left on Acalanes and a quick right on Hidden Valley will take us to St. Stephen’s Trail. That will take us into Orinda where we can refuel at Starbucks in town. We’ll start rolling again, head up Moraga Way to Canyon, go left on Canyon, right on St. Mary’s Rd, descend all the way to Moraga Blvd. There we’ll retrace our steps back on to Olympic to Tice Valley to Danville Blvd. and home. Strava says 45 miles

The C1 Group will do the St. Mary’s Loop. We’ll take the usual route up San Ramon Blvd. into Alamo, cut through the neighborhoods, shoot across Olympic Blvd., snake through some more neighborhoods until we get onto Moraga Rd. A left on Moraga Rd. and another quick left on St. Mary’s Rd. We’ll take that to the end and regroup at the Lafayette Commons Park. After a quick break (and a picture) we’ll head out and take Moraga Rd. back into Lafayette and through the neighborhoods then home via Olympic, Tice Valley and Danville Blvd. Eat and hydrate for 39 miles.

For our Liv C2 Beginners Group we’ve got lots of routes in mind, so we'll arrive and decide. Our goal is 15 - 20 miles. And along the way we can talk about:

  • Shifting and braking
  • Safely riding in groups
  • Clipping in & out
  • Nutrition and hydration
